Obra Negosyo Eskwela will be making a comeback in January next year after an absence of over 10 years.
This was the outcome of the meeting called by Gov. Gwen Garcia and representatives of private and state-run colleges and universities in Cebu on Thursday, October 19.
The University of the Philippines–Cebu; Cebu Technological University–Main Campus; Cebu Normal University; University of San Carlos; University of San Jose-Recoletos; Southwestern University–PHINMA; University of the Visayas; University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue; and Benedicto College are among the schools that agreed to take part in the Capitol-led program through their business management students.
Obra Negosyo Eskwela, a brainchild program of Governor Gwen Garcia, aims to help selected micro-entrepreneurs in the Province of Cebu improve their existing businesses with the assistance of the academic community, the business sector, and the provincial government.
Governor Garcia underscored that this program will be a great opportunity for the students, as they will get the chance to experience real-life situations while assisting the small entrepreneurs of their chosen businesses.
“You will be setting out into the world your graduates that are now empowered to face reality, life, and all its challenges in a nutshell,” Gov. Garcia said.
She also assured that neither the school nor the student will spend a single centavo on the program since the local government unit will shoulder their expenses, including transportation, lodging, and food — with the aid of the Cebu Provincial Government.
First launched in 2010, the program came to a stop when Gov. Garcia’s term expired in 2013.
Joining the governor were sixth district Board Member Glenn Soco, Department of Trade and Industry-Cebu Director Rose Mae Quiñanola, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Kelie Ko, Sugbo Negosyo technical working group members. | Babie Jane Revecoy
