Capitol is willing to lend a hand to law enforcement groups in providing technical and vocational skills through the Sugbo Kahanas program.
This was the assurance of Gov. Gwen Garcia to Police Colonel Dyan Agustin, the newly-appointed chief commander of the Regional Mobile Force Batallion Central Visayas, during a courtesy call on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
“If you want to learn another skill, sultie ko para kay mo-launch na pod mi sa among (Sugbo Kahanas) Season 3 para maka-avail mo ana,” Gov. Garcia told Agustin.
The governor’s offer came after Police Executive Master Sergeant Genavo Lumapay, who was also present at the meeting, told the governor that the heavy equipment operations training they had received under the Sugbo Kahanas program proved useful especially post-Odette when heavy machineries where used to clear roads from debris.
"First time namo to nga nakagunit og bulldozer, usa tos gamit kay namu in case of naay mga calamity," Lumapay said adding there were six police officers from the RMFB 7 who underwent the training.
"Dako kaayog tabang ang iyang mga plano," he said.
Sugbo Kahanas is a brainchild program of Governor Garcia that offers free technical and vocational skills trainings for Cebuanos who would want to acquire a new skill for business or employment purposes. Its previous two seasons had budget allocations of P100 million each, coursed through the offices of the Vice Governor and the 17 Board Members.
PCol. Agustin welcomed the idea of the governor and said it would be a great help to them.
He also assured that this training would not be an impediment to their service but an additional skill for his members.
"Napakalaking bagay samin yan lalong lalo na sa PNP, at least meron tayong government official na nag-iisip para sa kapakanan ng kanyang tauhan," Agustin said.
RMFB7 is a battallion-sized mobile reaction unit of the Police Regional Office for internal security operations and to reinforce or support the provincial, city, and municipal police units for public safety operations, law enforcement operations, and special police operations.
Its headquarter is located in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga in southern Cebu.| Babie Jane Revecoy
