Barangay Health Workers (BHW) of the province will receive an additional P1,000 for their Christmas gift.
Gov. Gwen Garcia announced during the BHW Congress on Friday, Oct. 6, at the IEC Pavilion in Cebu City that the BHWs in the province will each receive P6,000 this Christmas, from last year's P5,000, as the Capitol’s appreciation for all their voluntary service rendered to the barangays.
The BHW Congress, which gathered over 9,600 BHWs, was also attended by Senator JV Ejercito and Sen. Bong Go.
In his speech, Sen. Ejercito said he will be supporting the proposed Magna Carta for BHWs that is pending in Congress as he sees its significance for these dedicated barangay volunteer workers.
The proposed bill will provide incentives and benefits for BHWs all over the country, including hazard, transportation, subsistence allowances, as well as retirement cash incentive, health and insurance coverage, as well as maternity and vacation leaves.
Barangay Health Wellness Partylist Representative, Congresswoman Angelica Natasha Co also attended the BHW Congress, which also commemorates the 15th year anniversary of the establishment of the BHW in Cebu Province.
Gov. Garcia has a soft spot in her heart for BHWs, as they can be relied on in implementing the governor’s health-related orders even down to the barangay level. | Mary Ann Malaya
