The technical working group (TWG) of the Sugbo Negosyo Season 2 revealed to Gov. Gwen Garcia the Top 10 finalists of the Capitol’s 100-million-peso initiative aimed at helping small and micro entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground.
The awarding ceremony for the Top 10 has been slated on October 19 at the Capitol Social Hall.
The Top 10 finalists were chosen by six judges from a field of 35 exceptional business models which were given a chance to be displayed at the Sugbo Negosyo Expo held on September 8-10 at SM Seaside City Cebu.
The Top 10 finalists will undergo a month-long mentorship and coaching program with the MCCI where they are expected to enhance, present, and defend their business models. The Top 3 among them will be selected and awarded at a later date.
The TWG, headed by Board Member Glenn Soco and Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) past president Steven Yu, reported that the 3-day expo earned for the entrepreneurs a total of P1.3 million.
The governor said that the Top 35 will each receive P20,000 as financial assistance to be loaded through QR-coded cards.
This system effectively safeguards public funds as these cards can only be used in Capitol partner merchants in purchasing pre-approved items such as business materials and other things necessary for the improvement of the business. | Mary Ann Malaya
