BALAMBAN — Site development of the soon-to-rise Cebu Provincial Capitol Building in Brgy. Cambuhawe here is well within schedule, and it is now 73% complete.
This was the report given by Department of Public Works and Highways region 7 engineers Jun Dela Cruz and Christopher Mike Cabarrubias to Gov. Gwen Garcia during a site visit on Monday, October 2.
Accompanied by Congressman Pablo John Garcia of the third district and Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay, the governor reiterated her resolute plan of transferring the seat of the Provincial Government from Escario Street in Cebu City to this exact spot in this town.
The new Capitol building will be an exact replica of the original facility in Cebu City, but with modern amenities. It will rise on a 2.3-hectare lot that is elevated 135 meters above sea level.
The provincial government is looking to acquire an additional of at least 50 hectares of lots here in order to also accommodate provincial and regional offices of national line agencies as well as Capitol department offices.
Last year, the national government allocated in the General Appropriations Act P200 million for this project. The amount is now being utilized for site development and foundational works.
Sen. Sonny Angara has also committed another P100 million for the construction of the edifice itself; while Sen. Francis Tolentino has set aside P80 million which Capitol will use in developing viable access roads to the site.
The provincial government has earmarked P500 million for the actualization of the project, which the governor believed would greatly be beneficial to the province since whatever funding is poured there would circulate within the economy of the province.
This town is a first class municipality nearing cityhood status and located at the center of the province, accessible both from the north and the south. It is an hour’s drive away from Cebu City via Transcentral Highway.
Board Members Jiembo Borgonia and Tata Corominas-Toribio of the third district; BM Stanley Caminero of the second district; BM Kerrie Shimura of the fourth district; BM Mike Villamor of the fifth district; Thadeo "Jonkie" Ouano of the 6th District; BM Celestino Martinez III of the ABC Federation, and BM Jericho Rubio of the SK Federation also joined the governor in the site visit. | 𝐈𝐏𝐀 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐉𝐑
