The Cebu Provincial Government has allocated P1,750,000 for the Municipality of Samboan in southwestern Cebu as it celebrates its 243rd town fiesta in honor of St. Michael the Archangel.
This was the announcement made by Gov. Gwen Garcia on the evening of September 29 as the LGU held its Dagayday Festival showcase at the town plaza in front of the centuries-old Samboan Church.
The five participating contingents from clustered barangays are set to receive P150,000 each from the Capitol, while the Municipality will be given P1 million as financial aid for its socio-cultural expenses.
The governor was also impressed with the performances of the contingents, saying their props, artistry, showmanship, and coordination are worthy of praise.
“Abi nako’g Pasigarbo sa Sugbo to!” Gov. Gwen said in her speech.
Samboan Mayor Tito Calderon was elated at the presence of the governor. On behalf of his constituents, he extended his thanks to the Capitol leadership for the constant aid and support for the initiatives and programs of the municipality.
“Dagayday”, in Cebuano, means the flow of water gushing forth from a spring or waterfall. This is the town’s tribute to the abundance of waterfalls in the town, 11 of which have been identified by the LGU as fit for tourism activities — the more famous of which are Aguinid, Dau, and Binalayan waterfalls.
Joining the governor last night were Board Members Stanley Caminero of the second district and Red Duterte of the fifth district (who is also the chair of the committee on tourism at the PB). | KNB with CL
