Governor Gwen Garcia visited the Whale Watching Activity Area in Barangay Tan-awan in Oslob town southern Cebu on Friday, Sept. 29, to personally assess the situation of the famous tourist spot.
Mayor Ronald Guaren, who received the governor, had previously asked the Capitol’s aid in building a bigger facility that could accommodate the growing number of tourists who needed to be given orientation first before they can be allowed to swim with Oslob’s gentle giants.
More or less, 1,000 people visit Oslob each day for the whale-watching activity, the mayor had said.
The governor talked with the tourism stakeholders in Tan-awan and urged them to maintain sustainable tourism practices for the benefit of future Cebuanos.
Governor Gwen was accompanied by DOT Undersecretary Shalimar Tamano and Board Members Stanley Caminero, Raymond Calderon, and Red Duterte in her visit.
The governor is expected to come up with a more informed course of action in the coming days geared towards helping Oslob improve its whale-watching facilities and operations. | Babie Jane Revecoy
