The Provinces of Cebu and Fujian of the People’s Republic of China signed a landmark memorandum of understanding that governs their Silk Road Partnership Agreement.
The signing was led by Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia and Fujian Gov. Zhao Long on Tuesday, Sept. 26, on the occasion of their 5th sisterhood relations anniversary celebration.
Both provinces, in their desire to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and the Filipinos and develop friendly cooperation, have agreed to forge this landmark MOU, where both will jointly promote the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
Through this agreement, the two provinces will further promote exchanges and practical cooperation which has been established since 2018.
Under this agreement, both provinces will deepen practical cooperation particularly in the agriculture sector and expand multiple export channels for high-quality agricultural products from both provinces.
They will also continue to strengthen infrastructure cooperation, and help each other’s enterprises undertaking relevant projects, and protect their lawful rights and interests.
Cebu and Fujian will further expand cooperation on tourism projects, strengthen the cooperation on planning, development and promotion of tourism projects between the two provinces.
They will also learn from each other’s experience and practices in the protection and development of world heritage sites, tourism promotion, and scenic spot management.
The Silk Road, known as a network of ancient trade routes, has connected East and West and Asian countries, fostering cultural exchange and economic growth for centuries. | Carlo Lorenciana
