Gov. Gwen Garcia has proposed to create a better facility to serve local and foreign tourists visiting the famous southern Cebu town known for its whale-shark watching.
This after Oslob Mayor Ronald Guaren asked the help of the province on how to improve the tourist experience of those visiting the town.
According to Guaren they have decided to divide the existing orientation area for local and foreign tourists in order to decongest the influx of tourists. Currently, Oslob's whale watching attracts a daily tourist traffic of 1,000 people a day on an average, he said.
Gov. Garcia suggested that a better tourist area should be established where orientation activities can be done, and souvenirs and other local products will be displayed to offer a better experience for tourists.
From there, tourists could be transported from this area to the whale watching spot via bus.
Guaren in an interview with Sugbo News said they will still look for a suitable area for this purpose.
A tourist, both local and foreign, pays P500 to experience the whale watching activity.
Gov. Gwen is scheduled to visit Oslob this Friday to assess the situation there as well as meet the owner of a resort in Sumilon Island, which is also one of Oslob's main tourist draws. | Carlo Lorenciana
