The traffic situation in Minglanilla has drastically improved due to the implementation of the “Right-Turn Only Policy” in the southern Cebu town.
This was the report made by Minglanilla’s traffic management chief, Glenn Antigua, during a meeting with Gov. Gwen Garcia at the Capitol on Sept. 1.
Last August 25, Gov. Gwen issued Memorandum Order 25-2023 which prohibited northbound vehicles coming from Tres de Mayo Road in Minglanilla from turning left, as they are now compelled to turn right and take a U-Turn at the Dr. Peña Road Intersection; thereby allowing for a moving traffic along the national road.
Happy with this development, Governor Garcia suggested replicating the same policy in other intersections along the national highway to further ease congestion.
Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad welcomed the Governor’s suggestion and instructed his traffic management team to identify appropriate intersections where the policy could be implemented.
Engr. Leonard Abao of the Department of Public Works and Highways second engineering district, told the governor that they could work out an alternative route that southbound motorists could use via the Mohon-Libo-Tungkil-Calajuan Bridge-Calajuan Provincial Road all the way to Tungkop, Minglanilla.
The matter is still under review, however, since the said road needs widening as its current width is only 6.9 meters. | Babie Jane Revecoy
