Gov. Gwen Garcia met officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways and Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas to discuss ways to solve the traffic congestion along the city center.
During the meeting on August 7, Gov. Gwen also directed the DPWH regional office to finish the concreting of the unpaved section — over 100 meters — of the diversion road that will be used for the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.
The diversion road, which leads to the Carcar City Sports Complex, will be used as street dancing route for the Pasigarbo contingents this August 27.
In the same meeting, the governor ordered the barring of vehicles crossing the national highway in Carcar to manage the congestion along the area.
The city center has seen a growing congestion along the highway not only because of ongoing road projects by DPWH but also because of cars crossing from the adjoining streets.
The governor ordered the city’s traffic team to implement the “turn right only” rule along the highway, the very same rule implemented in Consolacion, she said.
Motorists coming from Cebu City will also no longer be allowed to turn left from the highway to the diversion road leading to the City Hall. Motorists taking the diversion road will have to use a “temporary rotunda” the city will build near the Gaisano Grand crossing.
Barcenas told 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐨𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 they will immediately notify their traffic enforcers on this rule, which will formally take into effect upon the issuance of a memorandum by the governor.
He said they will do a testing on this immediately. | Carlo Lorenciana
