Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos, Jr. led the launching of Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) Run 2023 opening ceremony at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City on Saturday, July 29.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan and Congresswoman Cindi Chan welcomed Gov. Gwen Garcia at the running event that also dabbles as this administration’s national anti-illegal drugs campaign.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through the DILG, launched the BIDA campaign in Manila in October last year to harness the support of national government agencies, local government units, private sector, faith-based organizations, and civil society organizations in the campaign against illegal drugs.
According to the PNA report, the program is “an intensified and more holistic campaign to reduce drug demand in the communities within the framework of the law, with respect for human rights,” and complemented by rehabilitation and socioeconomic development by the PNP, PDEA, NBI, and other concerned agencies.
Other officials present were Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, San Francisco Mayor Al Arquillano, Pilar Mayor Manuel Santiago, and Tudela Mayor Jojo Solante; as well as DILG 7 director Leocadio Trovela. | IPA
