Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gulla signed a memorandum of understanding with Asian Marine Transport Corp. (AMTC) CEO Paul Rodriguez to designate the Talisay City Fish Port, which has been idle for many years, as the temporary fish trading area in Cebu.
The city government will operate the fish trading port under the agreement brokered by Gov. Gwen Garcia during a meeting at the Capitol on Friday, July 21.
The agreement signing was witnessed by officials from BFAR, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, and Department of Agriculture regional executive director Angel Enriquez.
Former Talisay City mayor Johnny De los Reyes entered into a contract of lease with AMTC for the establishment of a fish port as well as a Roll-on, Roll-off port in the city.
This is now known as the Talisay City Fish Port, located in Brgy. Tangke near the boundaries of the cities of Talisay and Cebu along the South Coastal Road.
The port, however, has been idle for some time now.
With this agreement sealed, Mayor Gullas is excited for the many opportunities the city will have as the fish port finally becomes operational.
He told 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 that they will have to coordinate first with BFAR so the facility can immediately function as soon as possible. |Carlo Lorenciana
