Accompanied by Gov. Gwen Garcia, Sen. Bong Go conducted a monitoring visit at the Malasakit Center of the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City to check on its program implementation.
Go, who also chairs the Senate committee on health, said there are now 158 Malasakit Centers all over the country located in hospitals run by the Department of Health and the Cebu Provincial Government.
The Malasakit Center brings together the services of DSWD, DOH, PhilHealth, and PCSO under one roof to ease access to government financial and medical assistance, particularly to poor and indigent patients.
The one-stop-shop aims to reduce a hospital bill to the lowest amount possible by covering various patient services and expenses, pursuant to Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which Sen. Go principally authored and sponsored in the Senate.
Launched on April 20, 2021, the Malasakit Center in CPH Carcar is the sixth Malasakit Center in Cebu and the 103rd in the country.
Gov. Gwen and Go also led the distribution of financial assistance to the hospital’s patient-beneficiaries of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).
Out of 170 patient-beneficiaries, 92 of them received the financial assistance today worth P3,000 each. They also received grocery items, vitamins, T-shirts, and umbrellas from the office of the senator. | Babie Jane Revecoy
