Senator Bong Go and Gov. Gwen Garcia led the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Carcar City Central School.
DSWD shelled out over P5.8 million as financial aid for almost 2,000 AICS beneficiaries that received P3,000 each. Sen. Go also provided food packs, vitamins, T-shirts, and umbrellas to all beneficiaries; as well as assistive devices to selected individuals.
The recipients — 1,963 to be exact — included solo parents, fishermen, and tricycle drivers who have experienced crises like fire and flood incidents.
During his speech, Sen. Go thanked the Cebuanos for helping him in the last elections. He also reminded the beneficiaries to spend the financial assistance they received wisely by buying only those that are needed by the family and not splurge on alcohol and gambling.
Congresswoman Rhea Gullas, Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas, Board Member Stanley Caminero, San Fernando Mayor Mytha Canoy, Moalboal Vice Mayor Paz Rozgoni, and actor Philip Salvador joined the distribution.
DSWD 7 director Shalaine Lucero, ARD Johnny Cantero, and Malasakit Center chief Girlie Veloso were also present. | Babie Jane Revecoy
