The third of 19 Super Health Centers (SHC) to be constructed nationwide will be built in Carcar City, southern Cebu.
Sen. Bong Go and Gov. Gwen Garcia led the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday in Barangay Poblacion III. It was also attended by Carcar City Mayor Patricio Barcenas, first district Congresswoman Rhea Gullas, former presidential assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino; and actor Philip Salvador, among other government and medical officials.
The first two SHCs held its ground breaking in Toledo City and Cordova in March, this year.
SHC is a medium-type polyclinic that is smaller than a full-fledged hospital. It is designed to offer birthing, dental, medical, and laboratory services, said Sen. Go, chair of the Senate health committee.
The facility can also be upgraded to house a dialysis center, he added.
The Department of Health is the implementing agency of the project that is funded by the national government. Once completed, it will be turned over to the city government of Carcar.
The new health facility is a welcome development for the province which, under the leadership of Gov. Garcia, is investing heavily to upgrade medical services of Capitol-run provincial and district hospitals in Cebu. | Carlo Lorenciana
