Instead of conducting excavation works to repair another potentially damaged line, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) should just check if the cable line which was recently repaired would be enough to supply electricity to consumers in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
This was Gov. Gwen Garcia’s suggestion to NGCP, represented by operations and maintenance project manager Roxene Rosario, after it proposes another excavation works on the right side UN Avenue going to Lapu-Lapu City to repair a damage line which was just recently detected.
For the governor, another excavation work in the area could mean additional burden to motorists who would have to suffer traffic congestions due to repair works which seemed to be like a piecemeal job that lacks comprehensive assessment and planning.
To recall, NGCP was able to repair by April 20 the damaged transmissible cable along Ouano and UN Avenues in Mandaue City responsible for supplying electricity to the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-lapu.
NGCP is slated to report the result of their line testing next week to the governor who also wishes to know if there is an urgent need for additional power supply in Mandaue City that would justify the immediate repair of the damaged line.
Also present during the meeting were representatives from DPWH, Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, East Asia Utilities, Mactan Electric Company, and Visayan Electric Company.
