The pandemic that locked down the economy for two years brought to the fore the reality of a persistent yet seldom-talked-about illness that pertains to mental health.
This reality is quite common among today’s youth, especially with the many challenges and changes they undergo, like in educational setup and in navigating relationships in the time of social media revolution.
For this reason, the University of San Carlos Kauban Psychological Center took part in the Caravan of Provincial Government Services, offering psychological interventions, mental health screening, and psychological support services to ease the burden of those battling mental health issues.
USC’s Renzi-Lee Cacas, a psychometrician who leads the mental health counseling, revealed that it is common to misinterpret mental health issues without knowing that one is already experiencing them. These, he added, begin as stresses at home and gets magnified at school or in the workplace.
Cacas urged those who are having mental health issues or experiencing depression to open up to those whom they trust since a listening ear could really make a difference.
