BARILI, CEBU — Imbes cash, bugas! (Instead of cash, rice!)
This was the aid Capitol is extending to every women’s organization at the barangay level through the Bugasan sa Kababayen-an sa Barangay program.
On Friday, May 19, the Provincial Government of Cebu, launched the Bugasan sa Kababayen-an to the barangay level after it was launched in the municipal level a few months earlier.
The “Bugasan”, which was one of Gov. Gwen Garcia's major programs in 2010, is designed to elevate the living conditions of the women in the province by giving them an opportunity to start a small-scale enterprise.
Women's organizations are provided by the Capitol with an initial capital of ten sacks of rice which they are to sell to member households.
The women’s group will be provided with the necessary fiscal and small business management trainings in order to help them grow their rice business.
And to further encourage them in the endeavor, Gov. Gwen Garcia announced that she is incentivizing the program through a province-wide contest that promises exciting prizes for winners.
Pancil Women’s Association in Brgy. Pancil, Barili became the first women’s group to be enrolled in the program during the ceremonial turn-over of 10 sacks of rice at the Caravan. | IPA
