Cebuanos will soon have more choices of sea vessels to take if they plan to go to Camotes Island.
Aznar Shipping Corp. has decided to also assign a Roro vessel to ply the latest sea route that has docking points in Liloan’s Pier 88 and in the newly completed port in Poro, Camotes.
This was the good news reported by Erik Lim, Topline chief executive officer which operates Pier 88, during the meeting with Governor Gwen Garcia on May 22.
“We are happy to announce nga naay daghan nga mga shipping companies nga ninghatag og intention nga mo-dock sa atong port,” Lim told Sugbo News.
The additional shipping company that shows interest in serving Camotes will only benefit the cluster of islands that is comprised of four municipalities, namely: San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, and Pilar — bringing in more visitors and investors as well.
Super Shuttle Ferry and OceanJet have earlier committed to serving the route, giving travelers to and from Camotes an alternative service provider other than Jomalia Shipping which currently serves the Danao City–Consuelo, San Francisco, Camotes route.
Vallacar Transit has also secured the needed permit from LTFRB 7 for their Ceres buses to ply the Cebu City-Camotes route via Liloan–Poro docking points. The buses, like in Bantayan Island, will cross the channel aboard the Roro vessels.
Lim also updated Governor Garcia on the state of the preparations for the new route’s official launching this coming May 26, from the facilities construction to securing the necessary government permits, and port system orientation. | Babie Jane Revecoy
