Good news for travelers to and from Camotes Islands.
OceanJet will be conducting a “sea trial” on Wednesday, May 17, to determine the viability of the sea route connecting Liloan in mainland Cebu to Poro in Camotes Islands.
The sea trial will give OceanJet information on how long the trips will take, at what speed, and for how much it will cost the passengers.
Bryan Lua of OceanJet committed to Gov. Gwen Garcia on Monday an initial one round trip to Camotes daily aboard their fast craft that can carry up to 350 passengers.
He said the vessel has a travel speed of 22 knots (around 40km/hr) which can traverse the expanse of space between the two islands in just an hour and 30 minutes.
They will report to the governor on Thursday to discuss the results of their sea trial and other details on the opening of the sea route.
Aside from OceanJet, also signifying intent to ply the Liloan–Poro route is Super Shuttle Roro of businessman Paul Rodriguez.
Ceres buses have also come onboard, securing a franchise from LTFRB for the Cebu City–Camotes route, which will board the roro vessel. | Ioannes P. Arong
