The Capitol is looking to prescribe hygiene and cleanliness standards for resorts operating in Cebu Province.
Gov. Gwen Garcia made this announcement during a meeting with resort operators at the Capitol on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The meeting was in preparation for the upcoming Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Southern Heritage Trail slated on Nov. 22-24. It was also attended by Board Member Red Duterte, chair of the PB committee on tourism; and Provincial Tourism Officer Marti Ybañez.
“We are going to bring up the level of tourism dinhi sa Cebu nga bisag kinsay moanhi, bisag unsa nga resort or accomodation, mahalon ba na kaayo o bahalag backpackers, duna tay standard of cleanliness nga ang tanan mosunod,” Gov. Gwen said.
To carry out the initiative, the governor will ask the Provincial Board to pass an ordinance that would cover this policy.
As part of the assessment process of the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, guests will be asked to rate their accommodations. The ratings will provide valuable feedback to identify which establishments are able to meet the desired standards and which need improvement.
“Right now, we are already practicing it, but we are willing to level up and meet the expectations of the Governor,” Bona Urgello, operator of Marica Resort Badian, told 𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗯𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀.
While most of the attendees are booked for the upcoming Suroy-Suroy, Gov. Garcia encouraged other resort owners to make their facilities available for future tourism caravans and offer guests options, especially those with good ratings in major booking platforms. | BJR
