After months of intensive preparations, the river adventure activities in Kabutongan Falls, whose jurisdiction is shared by the southern Municipalities of Malabuyoc and Ginatilan, will officially reopen to the public on November 30.
The announcement was made following Gov. Gwen Garcia’s meeting with Malabuyoc Mayor Erlinda Piedad, Ginatilan Mayor Roy Vincent Singco, Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, Board Member Red Duterte, and Provincial Tourism Officer Marti Ybañez.
The reopening is scheduled after 43 guides from Malabuyoc and 71 from Ginatilan completed their training with the Department of Tourism to ensure their preparedness in river adventure safety standards and protocols.
The mandatory training, similar to those required for canyoneering guides in Badian and Alegria, focused on safety measures, first aid, and effective customer handling to maintain a high safety standard for adventure tourism sites.
For as low as P1,250, the Kabutongan Falls river adventure offers a unique experience of trekking, river jumping, and exploration of the picturesque Kabutongan Falls cave system.
Given the adventure itinerary is jointly located in Barangay Looc of both Malabuyoc and Ginatilan, the two LGUs will share responsibilities in managing the guests. The proceeds will also be shared, with a 50-50 revenue split between the towns.
To make the reopening even more exciting, the LGUs are considering special incentives for visitors, including treasure hunts, best photo awards, and best vlog contests for who wish to capture the beauty of the falls and the adventure experience.
Both mayors expressed gratitude to Gov. Gwen for her support of the towns’ tourism industry, noting that the reopening of Kabutongan Falls will not only increase their revenue but also boost their community’s visibility as premier adventure destination. | BJR
