A new covered court will be an added facility to state-run Cebu Technical University (CTU) Pinamunajan campus.
Gov. Gwen Garcia and third district Congressman Pablo John Garcia inaugurated on Sunday, March 17, the newly completed covered court of the campus.
The Capitol allocated P3.6 million for the completion of the facility that sits on a 450-square-meter lot inside the campus.
Pinamungajan Mayor Ana Jessica Baricuatro thanked the governor and the congressman for their constant support for the development of the youth in Pinamungajan through education, adding that it certainly is the key for their progress and development.
“Kon daghang gradwado, ang mga tawo nga naglingkod sa gobyerno magkinto,” Mayor Baricuatro said.
Gov. Garcia, who was third district representative in the House of Congress from 2013-2019, and incumbent representative, Congressman Pablo John, have been truly supportive of CTU Pinamungajan, allocating Congressional funds for the construction of campus facilities.
However, as the student population increases, so does the need for more infrastructure facilities such as classrooms.
And so during her speech, Gov. Garcia could not help but added more aid to CTU Pinamungajan through the construction of a two-storey, six-classroom building that could house at least 300 students at any given time.
“We will start with an initial six classrooms but with a promise to add more classrooms,” Gov. Garcia said, to the delight of the students and teachers who showed up at school even on a Sunday.
Congressman PJ called CTU Pinamungajan as “the gift that keeps on giving,” as it is now serving close to 2,500 students enrolled in education programs, as well as Bachelor Of Science In Agriculture, Hospitality Management, and Industrial Technology.
The younger Garcia is instrumental in elevating the status of CTU Pinamungajan after a bill he filed in Congress has become Republic Act 11787 or the CTU Pinamungajan Campus Act, which grants the said campus all the rights and privileges of a full-fledged CTU campus, from being an extension campus of CTU Barili.
Among others, this means that its budgetary needs will now be included in the national budget.
Of the seven LGUs in the third district, six have CTU campuses already, making tertiary education more accessible to Cebuanos in the province. | Babie Jane Revecoy
