DALAGUETE, CEBU — Today, February 9, has been declared by Malacañang as special non-working holiday.
And yet for Gov. Gwen Garcia, it is business as usual as she leads a series of inaugurations of Capitol-funded projects here with a combined worth of P182 million.
First among them is the public opening of the newly concreted Phase III of Mantalongon–Dugyan Road.
The Capitol spent P122.2 million for the project. It is 5.3 km in length, 6.1 meters wide, and has cement thickness of 9 inches.
It connects the mountain barangays of Mantalongon and Dugyan, the latter being the boundary between Dalaguete and Alegria.
Phase II of the same road concreting project has also been inaugurated. It has length of 2.2 km, width of 6.1 meters, and cement thickness of 9 inches.
The Capitol allocated P55.2 million for its construction.
Earlier, Gov. Garcia also inaugurated the Mantalongon-Villa Caridad Road Section in the mountain barangay of Mantalongon.
The Capitol spent P4.7 million for the barangay road that has a length of 424 meters and is 5 meters wide, and cement thickness of 8 inches.
“We are here to improve the lives of the Cebuanos. It’s clear that this road is crucial for the farmers as they rely heavily on transporting their produce directly to the market for sale,” Gov. Gwen told 𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗯𝗼𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 on the sidelines of the inauguration.
Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante welcomed the governor here where she was also accompanied by second district Congressman Edsel Galeos and Board Members Raymond Calderon and Stanley Caminero of the same district.
Dalaguete is known as the “Vegetable Basket of Cebu” — it being a major vegetable supplier not only in Cebu but in neighboring provinces as well.
For its part, Mantalongon is known as “Cebu’s Little Baguio” or “Summer Capital of Cebu” because of its cool climate all year round. This is also the reason why it is an ideal place to grow vegetables.
The concreted road sections also provide convenience to tourists who would want to embark on a trekking adventure to and set up camp in Osmeña Peak, Cebu’s highest peak, also located in Brgy. Mantalongon. | Jude Torres
