The Department of Labor and Employment is looking into shelling out another P30 million funding for Cebu in its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced or TUPAD program.
This was disclosed by DOLE Central Visayas Director Lilia Estillore during her meeting to Gov. Gwen Garcia on Monday, Sept. 25.
TUPAD beneficiaries, who are mostly workers in the informal economy, are given financial assistance by working from 10 to 30 days depending on the nature of their project that revolves around doing social community projects; economic community projects; and agro-forestry community projects.
TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for 10 to 30 days maximum.
In the previous Caravan of Services, TUPAD cash grants had already been distributed to several beneficiaries in Cebu.
Capitol and DOLE 7 have worked together in the implementation of this program.
According to Gov. Garcia, the agency has become more efficient in disbursing these grants to its intended beneficiaries because of Capitol’s caravan which is held every quarter and goes around the 7 districts of the province, including the island municipalities to bring together government agencies and the Capitol’s departments to distribute assistance.
This is the very reason, Gov. Gwen said that DOLE’s Tupad has become more effective because of the caravan’s province-wide reach.
DOLE is one of the partner agencies of the Capitol in the quarterly Caravan of Services, said to be the largest congregation of government services in Cebu. | Carlo Lorenciana
