Gov. Gwen Garcia led the inspection and coordination meeting in Mandaue City today, April 14, to find ways to improve the roundabout system implemented at the intersection of UN Avenue and DM Cortes Street, just at the foot of Marcelo Fernan Bridge in the city.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Congresswoman Daphne Lagon of the sixth district, and Congresswoman Rhea Gullas of the first district were also in attendance; as well as officials of DPWH and Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue.
Among the things noted were the need to widen the roads to allow for a bigger rotunda, as well as move the roundabout circle towards corner D.M. Cortes St. so that lots already acquired by the city will be utilized.
Gov. Garcia will meet owners of the affected lots in the area, telcos, and utility firms whose structures fall within the roundabout area to discuss terms on how they can help make the system work.
A strengthened information drive will also be implemented, as well as installation of sufficient signages so motorists would be informed ahead which lane to take if they would like to take which way so that congestion at the intersection can be avoided.
The roundabout, like the one at Fuente Circle, will rid the road of traffic lights and allow vehicles to continuously move in one direction around the rotunda in a bid to address traffic congestion in the area. |BJR
