More than 300 slots are now available for students in the Province of Cebu who would want to avail of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
Julius Chua of the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) said they are now accepting applications for SPES for the year 2018.
Deadline for application is on March 12, 2018 and tentative start of work will be on April 1, 2018.
SPES is mandated under Republic Act No. 7323 otherwise known as “an Act to help poor but deserving students pursue their education by encouraging their employment during summer and/or Christmas vacations…”
PESO aims to maximize the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) program to uplift the youth by providing them career skills in job hunting and application as it is also in line with Gov. Hilario P. Davide III’s agenda on education and vocational training.
The program has long been part of the Province’s positive action for the students who wish to not only learn the skills in applying for a job, but also take a productive role during their summer break since they will also earn in the process.
Private partners from the food industry, such as KFC, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and Orange Brutus to commercial companies such as Veco, Metro Gaisano and MLhuiller are among many who are participating in the program. PESO is still open for companies who wish to join in the program.
Qualified to apply are those 15 to 30-years-old who are still studying high school or college and whose parents have a combined income that does not exceed P131,484 per annum.
The students can apply for various positions like service crew, clerical aides, baggers, etc.
Upon qualification, PESO will refer the applicants to the companies. Successful job-seekers will be distributed to the establishments located in their municipality or area, or nearest their address if available.
The number of working days is established by DOLE between 30-45 working days.
