The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) held its fourth regular out-of-town session at the Legislative Building of Danao City on Monday, Nov. 26.
Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale officiated the out-of-town session at the Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Danao.
One of the highlights of the out-of-town session was the PB’s approval of the resolution expressing deepest condolences to the bereaved family of former Danao mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano, who passed away on Nov. 24.
In a news report of Cebu Daily News, Durano succumbed to cancer. He was 84.
In the same report, Magpale, who is a relative of Durano, said that he was hospitalized for two months.
The former mayor’s body was cremated and the ashes were brought to the family’s private cemetery at the Ramon Durano Foundation in Guinsay, Danao.
During the out-of-town session, the flag of the Danao City Hall was raised at half-mast.
Durano had served the City of Danao as councilor, vice mayor and mayor.
Provincial Board Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, son of the vice governor, read the resolution following its approval by the PB.
Miguel said that Durano, who was fondly called as “Mayor Boy,” was considered as one of the longest serving mayors of the city.
“His long years of dedicated and productive service as the city’s leader had earned him the high esteem and special endearment in the heart of the people of Danao and for which he will forever be remembered,” said Miguel.
“The famous Karansa Festival of Danao, which he established in 1980, was considered the greatest legacy he left behind,” he said.
Also, the Provincial Board approved on third and final reading the ordinance declaring the month of August every year as the “Cebu Provincial Nurses’ Appreciation Month.”
The ordinance was authored by PB Member Victoria Corominas-Toribio.
The accreditation of Catmon Deli Vendors Association as a civil society was also taken up, but the PB had to move the approval of the accreditation in the next session because majority of the association’s officers were not present.
At the end of the session, the PB approved a resolution thanking the Danao City Government for accommodating the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cebu during their out-of-town session.
“It is earnestly desired by Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale and the members of the Provincial Board to express their profound gratitude and appreciation to the City of Danao, Cebu, headed by City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, to Hon. Vice Mayor Thomas Mark Durano and the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Danao for the warm welcome and reception accorded to the officials and staff of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,” a part of the resolution read.
