Mrs. Jobel Angan-Davide, wife of Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III, delivered an inspirational message to over 200 students during the Youth Symposium organized by the Cebu Provincial Youth Commission (PYC).
The activity, held at the Cebu Technological University-Oslob Extension Campus grounds last September 18, was part of the Cebu provincial government’s Caravan of Services program.
Davide highlighted the significant role of the youth to society.
In the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, the youth, being the most vulnerable sector, can help by simply staying out of illegal drugs.
They can also participate in youth programs that can make them productive and help out other youths to be involved.
The youth, Mrs. Davide said, can also contribute a lot in disaster risk reduction.
“Kamo mga bata pa, mas lig-on inyo mga tuhod, in your own barangay, you should know who and where the senior citizens and the persons with disabilities (PWDs) are. So in case of disasters, you can be the first responders,” she added.
Mrs. Davide also urged the youth to take care of their aging grandparents and parents.
“It is a blessing for us to be given an opportunity to take care of our parents and grandparents,” she said.
The Youth Symposium was also in coordination with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Around 400 youth representatives are set to participate in the Provincial Government’s 1st Provincial Youth Congress slated this coming Oct. 7 to 9 at the Montebello Villa Hotel, Cebu City.
