The festive sound and music started to echo, calling the Cebuanos, as well as the balikbayans and tourists to come and celebrate the Sinulog.
With this, the Balik Cebu Committee launched their booth on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the first level of Ayala Center Cebu for the traditional welcoming of the balikbayans who come home to pay homage to Sr. Santo Niño and to enjoy the Sinulog festivities.
“Balik Cebu is one way to serve the balikbayans at their convenience, where they can get information, buy tickets for the Sinulog festival and inquire about other activities they wish to avail like tours within the Province of Cebu after the festival,” said Tetta Baad, Balik Cebu Committee chairperson.
“It is the time of the year that we welcome our balikbayans, we, in the province, we are passionately promoting Cebu as a destination,” expressed Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
“The word of mouth, the satisfaction, the pleasure that the other balikbayans had during the past 17 years is as valuable as being published in media outlets,” Magpale added.
DOT Chief Tourism Operations Officer Judy Gabato and Ayala Center Cebu General Manager Celeste Bong Dy joined Magpale and Baad in leading the cutting of the ribbon.
Along with them who witnessed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting were Cebu Provincial Consultant Patria Aurora Roa, Tourism Congress Travel Trustee Alice Queblatin, Cebu Province Protocol and Events Officer Grace Paulino, Cebu City Tourism Officer Hearty Marie Rizarri and Renaissance Cebuana 2018 Katherine Jumapao, as well as Mary Ann Dimabayao of MCIAA, Idelyn Maribojok of Megawide GMR and Cinbeth Orellano.
Not so far from where Balik Cebu booth is located is an exhibit of the collection of Santo Niño images in different forms and sizes.
