The vigilance and quick action of the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) management, together with the law enforcement agencies, resulted in the arrest of an 80-year-old Greek national and a 60-year-old Filipina from Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental for allegedly trafficking a teenager on Tuesday, April 30.
CSBT Chief Jonathan “Joy” Tumulak said his office got a report about a foreigner who was waiting at the drop-off area of the terminal at around 8 p.m. of April 30. The suspect was later seen by the CSBT personnel handing over some cash to a woman, who was with a minor in tow.
The suspects were identified as Stefanos Karakatsanis, who hails from Greece but he is presently residing in a posh condominium in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, and Nenita Ambrad Silot of Upper Motong, Dumaguete City.
“Siyay (Silot) ni-recommend aning langyaw nga patrabahuon ang 15 anyos bugti nga paeskwlahon,” said Tumulak.
According to the report of the Cebu City Police Office Station 5, Karakatsanis was waiting at the CSBT arrival area until Silot, together with the minor, arrived and approached him.
Silot then introduced the minor to Karakatsanis, who was reportedly seen touching the girl’s hips, hand and face.
The foreigner then reportedly gave P3,000 to Silot.
In cooperation with the Inter-Agency Counsel Against Trafficking 7, police officers arrested the suspects, who failed to present proofs that they are related to the minor.
The minor was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while the suspects were detained pending charges to be filed against them.
Tumulak said that this is not the first time a similar incident happened at the terminal.
“Diri sa terminal makadaghan nami makadakop kay duna man tay mga personnel diri nga ni-undergo og seminar kabahin sa human trafficking,” he said.
