Barangay workers from three North Cebu towns received cash aid worth P3.2 million from the Provincial Government last January 25.
Led by Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale, the distribution of cash gifts started in the municipality of Consolacion, then proceeded to Compostela and culminated in Liloan town.
More than 1,700 barangay workers received the aid, consisting of barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), daycare workers (DCW), barangay tanods and barangay lupons. BHWs, DCWs and BNSs received P2,400 each, while the tanods and lupons got P1,500 each.
Davide urged the barangay workers to continue with their relentless service and commitment to their respective barangays.
“Ipadayon ang inyong mga maayong buhat,” said the governor, as he acknowledged and thanked the workers for their efforts.
Magpale also expressed gratitude to the workers and apologized for the delay in the distribution, which was meant for the holiday season last 2017.
She said Governor Davide’s wish was to distribute the incentives personally so they can properly thank all of them in person.
“Gibuhat namo ni aron mahimamat gyud kamo, aron personal namo maabot among pasalamat sa inyong serbisyo,” Magpale shared, noting the barangay workers’ importance as front liners of the Capitol’s programs.
68-year-old Elsa Montero, a BHW from the mountain barangay of Cambayog, Compostela said she was grateful that the Capitol officials were present in the distribution so they could meet and greet them.
“Nagpasalamat gyud ko sa kaayuhan sa atong mga opisyales,” Montero emotionally said, after receiving her incentive.
Also, being the president of the Barangay Senior Citizens Association, she approached the Vice Governor to propose for a resolution for the assistance of the elderly in their barangay.
In addition, over P600,000 of financial assistance was given to barangays in Liloan and Compostela to fund for their social welfare projects, infrastructure development and purchase of equipment.
Davide and Magpale were accompanied by 5th district Provincial Board members Miguel Magpale and Jude Durano-Sybico. Officials of the towns welcomed the Capitol officials, led by Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado, Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño and Liloan mayor Christina Frasco.
