The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has authorized Gov. Hilario P. Davide III to sign a memorandum of agreement with a service provider for the hauling, treatment and disposal of medical wastes from provincial and district hospitals.
This is to ensure that no hospital wastes will be dumped anywhere in the province, particularly into the seas or rivers.
In a separate resolution, the PB condemned the act of disposing hospital wastes and other waste products anywhere in the Province of Cebu without proper treatment by the registered companies charged with disposal of hospital wastes.
In the first resolution, the Cebu Provincial Government is hiring the services of the Pollution Abatement Systems Specialist Inc. (PASSI), a company accredited by the Environment Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, for the hauling, treatment and disposal of at least 90,000 kilos of medical wastes from the 16 Capitol-run provincial and district hospitals for a period of one year.
PASSI won the bidding for this project after complying with all the required documents, with single calculated and responsive bid (SCRB) to address the specialized needs of hospitals.
The contract amount is P4.05 million.
The resolution was authored by PB Member Thadeo Jovito Ouano, and co-authored by PB member Glen Bercede.
Last month, the need for responsible and proper disposal of wastes, particularly those from the hospitals, was highlighted after hospital wastes were found floating on the shores of Lapu-Lapu City.
