At least P2.6 million in cash incentives were received by barangay workers of three towns in southern Cebu and Mandaue City in the north as the Cebu Provincial Government resumed its distribution this week.
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III spearheaded the giving out of incentives in the municipalities of Ginatilan, Samboan and Santander before Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale joined him in Mandaue City last Thursday.
Some 1,424 frontliners, including barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), daycare workers, tanods, and Lupong Tagapamayapa in four local government units went home with huge smiles after receiving their performance bonuses.
Davide said the cash gift is the provincial government’s way of extending gratitude to the barangay volunteers for their public service.
“Kami nahibalo nga ang inyong trabaho sa barangay dili lalim. Grabe ang inyong sakripisyo ug kahago ilabi nga kamo ang unang dangpanan sa mga lumolupyo sa barangay,” Davide said.
Tanods and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa each received P1,500 while the rest of the barangay frontliners got P2,400 each.
Magpale, for her part, shared her personal experience last December when a barangay animal health aide helped a cow in her farm give birth.
“Na-timing nga walay available nga veterinarian. Ang nitabang nako mao ang usa ka animal health aide. Ako gyung natagamtaman ang dako nga tabang nga mahatag sa atong mga barangay workers,” said Magpale in her speech in Mandaue City.
On Wednesday, Davide started the distribution in Ginatilan followed by Samboan and in Santander. Close to 700 barangay workers from the three towns received a total of P1.4 million in cash incentives.
Present during the distribution were Congressman Peter John Calderon and Provincial Board (PB) members Christopher Baricuatro and Jerome Librando, both of the 7th district, as well as PB member Jose Mari “Tata” Salvador of the 2nd district.
Officials of the towns assisted Davide in the distribution, including Vice Mayor Jose Gornez of Ginatilan, Vice Mayor Emerito Calderon Jr. of Samboan, and Mayor Marilyn Wenceslao of Santander.
In Mandaue City, Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna and PB members Glenn Bercede and Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano joined in giving out the performance bonuses to 757 frontliners amounting to P1.2 million.
For 2017, the Provincial Government allocated P60 million for the cash incentives of 60,000 qualified barangay workers all over Cebu.
