Balamban, Liloan rule Provincial Meet

Balamban failed to replicate a sweep of the Provincial Meet titles after Liloan topped the elementary division in the week-long tournament, which ended last Friday in Carmen town, northern Cebu.

Despite the setback, Balamban still managed to defend the overall crown with a total medal haul of 72 gold, 48 silver, and 20 bronze (g-s-b) medals.

The town retained its secondary title with 54-30-8 (g-s-b), while it finished third in the elementary with 18-18-12.

Liloan harvested 25-18-23 to rule the elementary competition followed by Dalaguete 21-5-5. The fourth spot went to Consolacion with 16-10-16 and Compostela landed fifth with 15-14-12.

Completing the top five winners in the secondary were Daan Bantayan (25-15-16), Liloan (21-14-22), Compostela (14-17-5), Badian (14-16-11).

The winners of the tournament will make up the Cebu Province team for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet set in February in Dumaguete City.

Nenita Jaralve, Physical Education School Sports coordinator of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the province, thanked athletes, town officials and the Cebu Provincial Government for their support.
