Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale visited the hinterlands and the shoreline communities of Oslob, some 102.73 kilometers from Cebu City, to bring halad gifts (love offer) to 3,104 senior citizens on March 10.
The Halad sa Gugma Alang Kang Lolo ug Lola is a program for the elderly that the administration of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and the vice governor has been doing since 2013.
On March 16, Davide and Magpale were also in Talisay to distribute the halad packs and health kits to 6,641 senior citizens in the city.
The halad in Oslob kicked off in the mountain barangay of Luka where each of the 844 Lolos and Lolas from the village, including those from the neighboring barangays, received a pack of goods and a health kit pouch.
Magpale, together with Provincial Board Member Jose Mari Salvador, then travelled the 18-kilometer tortuous road to Barangay Cansaloay where the cool air and the sun-filtered sky made it easy for 167 beneficiaries to wait for their gift packs from the Provincial Government. The old folks are from Barangays Canangcaan, Cansaloay and Manlum.
From Cansaloay, the Capitol officials proceeded to Cañang Elementary School, which is some 12 kilometers away from the neighboring Samboan town, and distributed the halad packs to a total of 313 beneficiaries from Barangays Cañang, Can-ukban, and Tumalog.
Since Samboan town is just down the mountain, Magpale’s convoy proceeded to the town hall and met with Mayor Emerito Calderon for the turnover of the P30-million financial assistance from the Capitol.
Magpale and the rest of the Capitol officials also went to Ginatilan town where she turned over a total of P9.8 million in three separate checks to Mayor Dean Singco. The funds will be used for the construction of a multi-purpose building and sports facilities; for the purchase of 200 sacks of rice for senior citizens, PWDs, farmers, fisherfolks, women’s group and indigent families; and for the town’s socio-cultural activities.
At lunchtime, Magpale went back to Poblacion, Oslob for the distribution of the halad packs to 1,007 senior citizens from Barangays Poblacion, Lagunde, Daanglungsod and Calumpang.
The halad team had its last stop for halad distribution in Barangay Nueva Caceres and gave gift packs to 773 old folks from Barangays Nueva Caceres, Looc, Bonbon, Pungtod and Gawi.
The vice governor capped the day’s activities with a multi-sectoral group meeting composed of trisikad and tricycle drivers, fishermen and fisherfolk of Boljoon. It was organized and sponsored by Cebu’s 2nd District Rep. Wilfredo Caminero.
In Talisay, senior citizens from Barangays Jaclupan, Lagtang, Tabunok, San Isidro, Dumlog and San Roque also benefited from the halad packs distributed by the Province.
Provincial Board Member Raul Bacaltos, who represented the first district in the board, accompanied Davide and Magpale in the distribution activities.
