“I believe that the office of the governor is a public trust and the Constitution requires its holder to be accountable to the people at all times. We must serve them with utmost responsibility, efficiency, loyalty and integrity. Public officials have to act with patriotism and justice and live a modest life.”

Born on August 25, 1964 in Cebu City, Junjun Davide is the eldest son of former Chief Justice Hilario “Jun” G. Davide, Jr. and the former Virginia Jimenea Perez. Both parents had careers in public service. Hilario Jr., a native of Argao, had held various elective and appointive positions. Virginia, who hails from Tandag, Surigao del Sur, is a former Director of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), an attached agency of NEDA. He is married to the former Jobella Angan and has three daughters: Patricia, Dana and Nina.

Junjun completed elementary in Sacred Heart School for Boys and attended high school at the University of the Philippines Cebu. He earned a Political Science degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman and obtained a Bachelor of Law degree at the University of San Carlos in 1995. He passed the bar examinations in 1997.

He is a two-term Cebu City councilor in the North District (2004-2009) and a founding partner of Calderon Davide Trinidad Tolentino and Castillo Law Offices. Davide worked as Graft Investigation officer for the Office of the Ombudsman- Visayas. His previous positions include: Vice President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines- Cebu City Chapter Foundation and President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Cebu Chapter Foundation Inc. He was also a former faculty member of the University of Cebu College of Law.

Junjun’s low-key demeanor is what sets him apart from a lot of politicians. He does not call attention to himself.  His humility and silent strength are what truly make him admirable. His warm and easygoing attitude is what attracts people to him first. He can relate to and sympathize with people from all walks of life regardless of background.
