Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale awarded the outstanding puroks, barangays, municipalities and cities during the Our Cebu Program 2018 Partners Conference and Awarding Ceremony at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu on Tuesday, Dec. 4. This year is different from the past years because the local government units were categorized as bronze, silver, gold and platinum awardees. Barangay Nailon of Bogo City won the platinum award for the barangay category, while the cities of Naga and Bogo won the same award for the city/municipal category.
As part of the efforts of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III’s administration to constantly equip and update emergency personnel with the ability to address complex threats of disaster, the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted its 4th Emergency Responders Congress last Aug. 29 to 31.
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III led the inauguration and blessing of the new P8.2 million worth multi-purpose building at Don Dionisio Jakosalem Plaza in Barangay Poblacio, Dumanjug, Cebu last Aug. 23. With the governor in the activity were Cebu’s 7th District Rep. Peter John Calderon, Provincial Board Members Christopher Baricuatro and Gerome Librando, Mayor Guntrano Gica, Vice Mayor Rainero Asentista, village chiefs and the Municipal Hall department heads. During the activity, the Municipal Government of Dumanjug also distributed financial assistance to at least 30 barangays. Of these barangays, 14 got P1 million each, while the 16 other barangays received P150,000 each as financial assistance. Gica said that the distribution of the financial assistance is a fulfillment of his promise to help the town’s villages. The mayor also thanked the administration of Davide and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale for their continued support to the municipal government. He said that the Capitol gave P10 million in cash assistance for the road concreting of the barangays. Davide, in response, assured Dumanjug that the Province will continue to extend assistance for the development of the town.
The Cebu Provincial Government, through the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office, launched today its 3-day travel fair dubbed as “Cebu Journeys.” Visit the Capitol Social Hall and Dome to get to know more about Cebu’s attractions and local products, as well as have the chance to grab travel packages during this affair, which runs from Aug. 28 up to Aug. 30. Capitol tourism officer Boboi Costas earlier said that the travel fair is a way for the Province to articulate its Six-Key Development Agenda, by recognizing the role of local government units and communities in tourism and countryside development and tapping them as part of the celebration.
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III distributed at least P1.5 million worth of agri-machineries and farm equipment to farmers' associations in 46 towns this morning during the 4th Farmers' Day at the Capitol. The Cebu Provincial Government harvested more than 300 kilos of bangus in its fishery farm in Barangay Pandacan, municipality of Pinamungahan last October 24. An estimated 600 kilos more of bangus are due for harvest next week. More than a hundred couples in the city of Naga realized their dreams to finally march on the aisle of matrimony. At least 173 couples in 28 city barangays benefited from the mass wedding ceremony last September 3 at St. Francis de Assisi Parish. The mass wedding is a yearly activity sponsored by the city government of Naga led by Mayor Valdemar Chiong.

Nine months have passed since super typhoon Yolanda hit the northern part of Cebu, including the municipality of Daanbantayan. However, the resilience of the town remains strong amidst adversity. “United with the Almighty God’s unceasing guidance and blessing, the Kandayan-ons have shown their natural resiliency and extraordinary ability to rise from the rubbles of Yolanda as we never wavered in our belief that we can survive, and not just survive, but be better than we were before,” said Mayor Augusto D. Corro in his fiesta message.
The two-day holiday last Aug. 21 and 25 failed to lure job hunters into making a long trip home in their towns. Instead, many joined in the local job fair at the Capitol Social Hall held last Aug. 24. More than 1,000 job seekers have participated in the event, hoping to find their respective places in any of the 34 firms recruiting qualified applicants. Of the 1,107 applicants, 604 were females and 503 males. Around 1,073 of them who underwent interview. Some 883 of the applicants were considered for final interview.

As soon as Capitol engineers and Filmon Hardware, Inc. tested and checked the 12 brand new generator sets, PGSO labeled the units and are all set to be send to the northern areas of Cebu. These gen sets will be used to energize the water systems of municipalities affected by the super typhoon Yolanda. Gen set recipients are: Pilar, San Francisco, Poro, Tudela in the Camotes group of islands; Madridejos, Bantayan, and Sta. Fe in Bantayan Island; Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo City, and Tabogon in the mainland northern Cebu.

The Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum Foundation Inc. or SCHMFI is planning to make the 99 year old Gotiaco Building a Chinese Heritage museum, the building was built on 1914 and owned by Don Pedro Gotiaco, a Chinese businessman. It is the 1st building in Cebu to have an elevator. It is situated in the City Center in Downtown Cebu across the Cebu City Hall.

Around 150 Capitol employees from different departments joined other LGUs for the Clean Up Operations in Cordova due to oil spill that reached the coastlines of the said municipality that posed a grave threat to the marine life of the area. The oil spill resulted from the sunken m/v St. Thomas Aquinas that collided with Sulpicio Express Cargo ship last August 16, 2013.
The most awaited part of the program was a dance contest dubbed as Sayaw sa Kapitolyo participated by the Capitol employees in various offices. It was one of the cultural highlights of the founding anniversary that features retro music such as cha-cha, sway, boogie among others. It was held at the Capitol social hall where employees from different departments had witnessed the competition. Each group gave a delightful performance during the show.

In commemorating the historical event of World War (WW) II, the re-enactment of Talisay Landing held at the beachfront in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City last March 26, 2013 shows the patriotism of Filipinos. Cebu Acting Governor Agnes Magpale shared 100 thousand pesos to Talisay City Government as support for the said event. Talisay City spent 1.5 million pesos for the renovation of the landing area and another 500,000 pesos for the activity.
The Sarok Festival is celebrated on Consolacion’s foundation day, the 14th of February. The festival got its name from “sarok,” a kind of hat made of bamboo strips and dried banana leaves. The event is a virtual smorgasbord of street dancing and local colors. The highlight was a dance competition named after the festival and divided into two categories: Elementary and Secondary.
Widely popular among the young, Bisrock is a recent cultural phenomenon and is instrumental in the revival of Cebu’s local music scene. This is why Board Member Magpale ensured Bisrock to be part of the celebration by giving free concert performed by Missing Filemon in Danao City last February 23.

Recently Acting Governor Agnes A. Magpale promoted 32 Capitol employees to higher positions. The employees who come from various departments have been in the government service at the Capitol for more than five years. Their promotion is based on the required Very Satisfactory rating of the services rendered in their respective offices.
