Sea Travel Halted, Evacuations Ongoing as Cebu Braces for Tropical Storm Basyang Landfall

𝐒𝐄𝐀 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐋 𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐄𝐃, 𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐂𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐄𝐁𝐔 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐘𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋

Sea travel across several ports in Cebu Province has been suspended and evacuations are ongoing as authorities monitor the possible impact of Tropical Storm #BasyangPH, which is expected to make landfall in southern Cebu today, Friday.


According to the 7 a.m. February 6 update of the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the following measures and situations were reported:

𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦. Sea trips were suspended in 15 ports in the province:

1. Hagnaya Port, San Remigio

2. Pulambato Port, Bogo City

3. Maya Port, Daanbantayan

4. Consuelo Port, San Francisco

5. Poro Port

6. Jagutapay Port, Tudela

7. Danao City Port

8. Tabuelan Port

9. Argao Port

10. Toledo City Port

11. Mainit Port, Oslob

12. Liloan Port

13. Labogon Port, Mandaue City

14. Looc Port, Mandaue City

15. Bato Port, Samboan

𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦. A total of 350 individuals were reported stranded in various ports:

1. Ouano Wharf — 118

2. Liloan Port — 80

3. Bato Port — 55

4. Pulambato Port — 27

5. Looc Port — 25

6. Labogon Port — 24

7. Tabuelan Port — 20

8. Maya Port — 1

𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦. Precautionary closures were implemented in key tourism destinations:

1. Alegria — Ecotourism attractions

2. Badian — Kawasan Falls

3. Dalaguete — Osmeña Peak

4. Moalboal — Diving, snorkeling, and island hopping

5. Oslob — Whale-shark watching

𝗘𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗨𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦

Early reports reveal that a total of 58 Evacuation Centers (EC) have been activated in LGUs. Thee EC now house 131 evacuated families which is comprised of 789 individuals.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗕𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗔

1. Tuburan — 82 families / 266 individuals evacuated

2. Barili — 53 families / 220 individuals evacuated

3. Samboan — 9 families / 100 individuals housed in 33 Evacuation Centers

4. Sibonga — 26 families / 82 individuals housed in 8 Evacuation Centers

5. Alegria — 24 families / 74 individuals housed in 5 Evacuation Centers

6. Ginatilan — 10 families / 33 individuals housed in Evacuation Centers

7. Santander — 19 individuals (1 Evacuation Center activated)

8. Sogod — 6 evacuation centers activated (no other figures provided)

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro is closely monitoring the situation at the PDRRMO Command Center in Brgy. Apas in Cebu City and urged Cebuanos to follow official advisories, avoid sea travel, and comply with evacuation directives to ensure public safety as the storm approaches southern Cebu. | CAPITOL PIO
