FUZHOU, CHINA — Warm conversations and cultural exchange filled the evening as the Cebu Provincial Government delegation, led by Governor Pam S. Baricuatro, was formally welcomed by Fujian Governor Zhao Long during a dinner that reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two provinces.

Ahead of the banquet, the two governors held a meaningful discussion, with Governor Zhao sharing insights about Fujian Province and expressing his government’s happiness in hosting the Cebu delegation.
He underscored Fujian’s intention to further strengthen its relationship with Cebu, a sister-province partnership that has been in place for eight years.
Governor Baricuatro echoed the same commitment, emphasizing that Cebu is ready for deeper collaboration—particularly in healthcare, tourism, and investment and economic expansion. She highlighted her administration’s push for transparent, clean, and efficient government services, positioning the province as increasingly tourist- and investor-friendly.

In a heartfelt moment, Governor Baricuatro conveyed Cebu’s gratitude for Fujian’s assistance and donations following the recent disasters that affected the province, noting that such gestures reflect a friendship that goes beyond formal agreements.
The evening unfolded with presentations celebrating the unique identities of both provinces. Fujian proudly showcased its renowned local tea, while Cebu featured Tuburan Coffee, symbolizing the growing opportunities for trade and cultural appreciation.

Guests were treated to musical performances that underscored the spirit of cultural exchange. One of the night’s highlights came from a group of Filipino scholars currently studying in Fuzhou, whose surprise performance featured traditional Filipino dances and a touching rendition of the Bisaya song “Usahay.” Adding to the moment, a local Chinese singer joined in, drawing warm applause from the audience.
The celebration concluded with an exchange of gifts between the two provinces—an enduring symbol of mutual respect and a shared vision for stronger cooperation in the years ahead.
The visit forms part of the Cebu delegation’s official three-day full-packed trip to China aimed at strengthening partnerships in trade, investment, healthcare, and cultural exchange. However, Governor Baricuatro has decided to return to Cebu ahead of schedule due to the looming typhoon expected to affect the province.
In a Facebook post, the governor extended her apologies for the engagements she would no longer be able to attend, underscoring that her priority remains the safety and preparedness of Cebuanos. She assured partners that the mission will continue seamlessly, with the delegation to be represented by Provincial Board Members Dr. Stanley Caminero, Lakambini Reluya, Mike Villamor, and Malcolm Sanchez, who will carry forward Cebu’s initiatives and commitments.
