The Cebu Provincial Government strengthened the emergency preparedness of its health workforce with the conduct of a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for medical and non-medical personnel of Capitol-run hospitals, which began yesterday and ends today, Feb. 4, at the Capitol Social Hall.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of health care workers in providing timely and proper response to life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest, choking, and other critical situations that require immediate intervention.

The activity was led by a team of experienced health professionals from Capitol-run hospitals, including focal persons from the Provincial Health Office and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Piso Public Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan emphasized the importance of training all personnel in Capitol-run hospitals, including non-medical staff, in Basic Life Support.

She noted that equipping everyone within health facilities with life-saving skills can make a critical difference during emergencies, particularly in situations where immediate medical intervention can spell the difference between life and death.

The BLS training marked the start of a month-long series of training sessions, to be conducted in batches, allowing more personnel from various Capitol-run hospitals and health facilities to participate.

Provincial officials said the initiative is expected to further strengthen Cebu’s health system by ensuring a more capable and responsive workforce, both within hospital settings and in emergency situations outside medical facilities.

The Capitol reaffirmed its commitment to continuously enhance the capacity of health care workers to deliver faster, more efficient, and more reliable public health services to the people of Cebu. | CAPITOL PIO
