The Capitol Dome came alive with color, creativity and Cebuano pride as the Province of Cebu marked Provincial Arts Month with the launch of “Ani sa Alampat: Kamatuoran, Kadasig, ug Paghiusa” (Harvest of the Arts: Truth, Courage and Unity), a celebration of creativity rooted in identity, courage and collective expression.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro led the opening of the weeklong exhibit on Monday, Feb. 2, in celebration of National Arts Month. The exhibit runs until Feb. 7.

Facilitated by the Cebu Provincial Youth Development Office, the exhibit formally kicked off the province’s monthlong celebration of the arts. It features works by Cebuano artists, designers, photographers and creatives whose pieces reflect local culture, stories and artistic excellence.

During the opening, Governor Baricuatro recognized and thanked the exhibitors — including fashion and product designers, local accessory designers, puso weavers, visual artists, decorators and the chorale — whose talents transformed the Capitol Dome into a living gallery of Cebuano artistry.

Beyond the exhibit, a lineup of activities is scheduled throughout the month. These include an arts talk on Feb. 7 through the podcast “Ani sa Alampat: Stories of Practice and Purpose”; “Hulagway sa Kamatuoran,” a digital art and illusion contest from Feb. 9 to 13 with a P15,000 prize; “Sugilanon sa Sugbo,” a digital storytelling Facebook Reel challenge with a P10,000 prize; “Sayaw sa Pagpahayag,” a fusion dance competition combining cultural and contemporary styles; and “Bisti sa Paghiusa,” a sustainable fashion and wearable art competition with a P30,000 prize.

Provincial Board Members Raymond Calderon, Nilo Seno and Loren Singco, department heads, and other provincial officials, including Assistant Provincial Administrator Aldwin Empaces, attended the launch. Empaces expressed appreciation for the youth-led initiative, saying the passion and creativity of young Cebuanos continue to drive efforts toward cultural preservation and heritage appreciation.

In her message, the governor said Provincial Arts Month celebrates the Cebuano spirit. She hopes that the celebration would open more opportunities to honor artists, uplift creatives and allow Cebu’s cultural identity to flourish.

“As your governor, I want you to feel that the Capitol — and Cebu — is your home, a place where your creativity is nurtured and your voices are valued. When our artists thrive, our culture grows stronger, and future generations learn to love who they are as Cebuanos,” Governor Baricuatro said. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬, 𝒀𝑱𝑩
