The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a coordination meeting with the Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST-7) on January 30, 2026, at the DOST Cebu Innovation Hub to explore areas of collaboration toward building a Smart and Resilient Cebu.
The meeting featured in-depth discussions on key science- and technology-driven disaster risk reduction and management initiatives of DOST-7, particularly the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP), which supports local governments through data-driven planning, risk assessment, and the application of innovative technologies to enhance community resilience.
Also presented was the Barangay e-Systems and Tools (BeST) Disaster Information System, a digital platform designed to strengthen barangay-level disaster preparedness and response through improved data management, early warning support, and real-time information sharing.
In addition, the proposed Cebu CARES Province-wide Digital DRRM Platform was introduced as an integrated system envisioned to harmonize disaster-related data, reporting, and decision-making processes across the province, enabling more efficient coordination among the PDRRMO and local government units.
The activity concluded with an open discussion to identify priority areas for collaboration and the presentation of the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reflecting the shared commitment of PDRRMO and DOST-7 to advancing science-, technology-, and innovation-based solutions for disaster risk reduction and management in Cebu Province.
