PDRRMO Ready to Assist in Binaliw Landslide Rescue Operations

The Cebu Provincial Government, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), has been in close coordination with Cebu City authorities and stands ready to deploy additional personnel to support the ongoing search and rescue operations in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City.

Acting on the directive of Governor Pamela Baricuatro, PDRRMO Head Dennis Francis V. Pastor said he remains in constant communication with Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to receive updates on the situation at the landslide-hit landfill in Barangay Binaliw. Pastor added that a PDRRMO team is currently on standby alert and prepared to relieve or augment the responders already deployed at the site.

Based on an initial report as of 12:35 a.m. of January 9, 2026, a total of 12 individuals have been rescued. Seven of the rescued victims were taken to the Visayas Medical Center, while five were brought to the North General Hospital. Authorities also reported that 38 individuals remain missing, and one fatality has been confirmed.

The landslide occurred at around 4:08 p.m. at the landfill in Barangay Binaliw, operated by Prime Waste Inc., burying parts of the facility and trapping several employees inside the company’s staff office. A total of 26 responder teams or 333 personnel from Cebu City and Consolacion town, BFP, PNP, AFP, Fire Brigades, among others, are presently conducting the search and rescue operation. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶
