CEBU CITY — Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro will offer her first Sinulog dance as a prayer offering to the Senior Sto. Niño de Cebu on the Grand Sinulog Day on January 18, performing on stage bearing the petition of the Cebuanos.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Provincial Capitol on January 7, Gov. Baricuatro said joining the Sinulog dance is both a personal act of faith and a continuation of a long-held Cebuano tradition.
“Naay bahin nga mosayaw ko kay tradisyon man ni ug usa ni ka halad,” the governor told members of the media.
Gov. Baricuatro will dance alongside the Danao City contingent, which is set to return to the Sinulog stage after many years of absence.
The governor also announced that the Cebu Provincial Government has allocated financial assistance to Cebu’s local government units participating in the Sinulog dance parade. Municipalities will receive ₱5 million each, while component cities will be given ₱3 million each.
She explained that the allocation follows the principle of equity, noting that component cities generally have greater financial resources compared to municipalities.
The governor added that she will be joined by her department heads during the dance offering and emphasized that the performance is not about personal recognition, but a collective act of devotion and thanksgiving to the Holy Child. |𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶
