A delegation from China’s Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, led by its president, Mr. Su Youxin, paid a courtesy visit to the Cebu Provincial Capitol to establish ties with the new administration of Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro.

Speaking through an interpreter, Mr. Su expressed the university’s desire to help popularize traditional Chinese medicine in Cebu — an approach to healthcare that has been proven effective for thousands of years — and to jointly develop nutritional products aligned with traditional Chinese medicine that would benefit Cebuanos.

He noted that initial efforts toward cooperation began during the administration of former Governor Hilario Davide III, when a Cebu–Fujian sisterhood pact was pursued. This partnership paved the way for various exchanges in trade and commerce, including collaboration in traditional Chinese medicine.

“My advocacy has always been healthcare, and I strongly feel that traditional Chinese medicine would advance my cause, so you definitely have my support in that regard,” Governor Baricuatro said during the meeting on December 17.
Joining the governor were Vice Governor Glenn Soco and Board Members Stanley Caminero, Malcolm Sanchez, Raymond Calderon, Lakambini Reluya, and Nilo Seno. Also present were the Capitol’s Piso Public Health consultant, Dr. Nikki Catalan, and Chinese Consul General in Cebu, Zhang Zhen.
Governor Baricuatro said her administration is more open and “friendlier” to anyone who wishes to partner with the province in delivering better services to Cebuanos, stressing that it is her policy to actively seek collaborators in public service.
The Chinese delegation also proposed regular training programs—either in Cebu or Fujian—for Cebu-based medical practitioners on integrating traditional Chinese medicine into their practice, which the governor approved.
“I am very interested in bringing to my people traditional Chinese medicine, and I would love to personally promote that in my social media page,” she said. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬
