The Cebu Provincial Government has taken immediate action after a story by photojournalist Jacq Hernandez and was posted in Proud Bisaya Bai Facebook page revealed the dire living and medical condition of 69-year-old Pedrito Davin of Purok Kolo, Barangay Estaca, Compostela.

Today, December 12, the Provincial Government, under the direction of Governor Pamela Baricuatro, deployed medical personnel from the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City to check on him and assess his condition.
Capitol’s Piso Public Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan also personally visited him and assured that all his medical needs, whether treatment, surgery, or medication will be covered by CPH–Danao.
“We heard you. We read Proud Bisaya Bai’s post, and as part of the Cebu Province, we acted on it.

Thank you to Sir Wency from Compostela, Dr. Jen of Cebu Provincial Hospital (CPH)–Danao, and Marielle for facilitating the transfer of Tatay Pedrito. Tatay Pedrito is now in the CPH-Danao Emergency Room, where he is being closely monitored while we wait for his laboratory results and the availability of an inpatient bed,” Dr. Catalan said, in a social media post.
This urgent intervention reflects Governor Baricuatro’s directive that quality medical services must be accessible to all Cebuanos, especially the most vulnerable.
In the Facebook post that reached the attention of Dr. Catalan, Hernandez detailed Tatay Pedrito’s difficult circumstances. He lives alone in an 8-by-10-foot shelter made of patched metal sheets and scraps, with a dirt floor that becomes muddy when it rains.
Four years ago, Tatay Pedrito broke his back after falling while helping a neighbor. Unable to afford the ₱90,000 surgery recommended to him, he never received treatment. His condition has since deteriorated, leaving his legs swollen and causing severe pain that makes standing nearly impossible.
With no family to rely on, a neighbor, Eliza Larosa, helps him when she can, cleaning his home and sharing meals. Still, Tatay Pedrito urgently needs medical attention, food, basic necessities, clothing, solar lighting, and a safe, cemented floor to improve his living conditions.
As the public continues to extend support, the Capitol’s swift response ensures that Tatay Pedrito will finally receive the care and dignity he has long been deprived of.
“He is under the care of our medical team, and his neighbor, Ma’am Eliza, is currently accompanying him so he is not alone. We will also do our best to locate his family members so that he will be properly supported after discharge,” Dr. Catalan said.
She assured that the Capitol will follow through on Tatay Pedrito’s progress, to help him restart appropriate treatment, and to support his safe return home.
“Thank you to everyone who raised concern for Tatay Pedrito. Your compassion helps us reach those who might otherwise be left behind,” she added. /CAPITOL PIO
