The National Housing Authority (NHA) has started distributing financial assistance to victims of the 2021 Super Typhoon Odette in Carcar City today.
The three-day cash assistance distribution began in Barangay Poblacion 1, with each affected family receiving P10,000 from the NHA’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program.

To recall, the NHA had allocated P742 million for Odette victims, but the funds were returned to the National Treasury after the housing agency and the previous provincial administration failed to agree on how to implement the program.
On Nov. 18, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro wrote to the NHA General Manager, appealing for the grant to be reallocated for Cebuanos who lost their homes to the super typhoon in December 2021.

A couple of days later, NHA Manager Joeben Tai informed the governor that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had ordered the funds to be released this month.
In her appeal, Gov. Baricuatro assured the NHA that her administration would fully cooperate and adhere to the agency’s guidelines.

“As the People’s Governor, I firmly believe that the affected Cebuanos deserve to receive what is rightfully theirs, despite the years that have passed,” Governor Baricuatro said in her letter.
According to the NHA, Carcar City was the first local government unit to receive cash aid because it had submitted a complete list of beneficiaries.
To ensure an orderly distribution, the Cebu Provincial Government sent personnel to assist the NHA.
