In a special blend of faith in action and community service, the Cebu Provincial Government conducted a medical mission in two barangays in Barili town on Monday, Dec. 8, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Despite the holiday, a team, led by Dr. Roel Cagape, provided essential healthcare services directly to residents. The mission served Barangay Gibuangan’s Sitio Mahayahay, as well as the health center and Sito Sanvill of Barangay Poblacion, with the support of barangay health workers (BHWs).
“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roel Cagape, who traveled all the way from Sarangani to help us respond to communities affected by recent calamities. His dedication allows us to reach those who urgently need medical attention,” said Capitol Piso Health Consultant, Dr. Nikk Catalan.

The Capitol’s mobile medical missions are designed to spare residents the burden and cost of traveling long distances for consultations and health check-ups, particularly in communities still recovering from recent disasters. Attendees also received free medicines.
This initiative is a key part of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro’s reforms to bring healthcare directly to the people.
While these missions provide immediate relief, Dr. Catalan said they are a stop-gap measure, running parallel to longer-term infrastructure projects and upgrades for the 16 Capitol-run provincial and district hospitals.
“Rest assured, Gov. Pam remains committed to improving our healthcare system and making quality medical services more accessible to every Cebuano,” Dr. Catalan said.
